The Wanda Diamond League announced on Monday that a new prize money structure will take effect in 2025, boosting payouts for top competitors but also increasing what lower finishers receive.
In addition, certain events qualify for the new Diamond+ designation where athletes can gain even more prize money.
Under the latest payout structure, at most Diamond League meets athletes will win up to $10,000 in individual events and $30,000 in the league final in Zurich on August 27 and 28.
There are now four Diamond+ disciples in each meet (two male and two female) and final will boost that number to eight disciplines (four male and four female) in the Zurich final. The disciplines will be announced in early 2025, but Diamond+ event winners will take home $20,000 and $50,000 in the final.
In total, the Wanda Diamond League revealed that around $18 million will be paid to athletes in its 2025 meets along with promotional fees.
Still, the new payout structure lags behind the prize money promised by Grand Slam Track and what competitor’s at the Athlos meet received last September’s meet in New York.
Grand Slam Track, founded by Michael Johnson, has guaranteed that event winners at all four of its 2025 meets will get $100,000 with the eight place finishers receiving $10,000 — the same payout as a Diamond League event winner under the new prize structure.
Meanwhile, top finishers at Athlos, created by Alexis Ohanian, received $60,000 and drew high marks from competitors.
