New Balance has opened a new garden for workers at its Made in UK factory in Flimby, Cumbria as a space built for “rest, reflection and connection” in a nod to the people who work directly on producing its products.
The garden was created in collaboration with London-based jewelry designer Bleue Burnham and features carefully placed seating areas that are easily accessible during breaks along with communal benches set inside lush flower beds, cherry trees, roses, lilies, hollyhocks, foxgloves and wildflower.
“The Flimby factory has been home to generations of skilled makers and we wanted to create something meaningful for the employees who continue that legacy every day,” Dan Holtby, director of UK manufacturing and operation at New Balance said. “This garden is a celebration of their contribution and a space designed for their wellbeing, enjoyment and connection to the natural environment that surrounds the factory.”
A diverse planting range is meant to bloom according to the season with continuous varieties of flowers taking their turns to occupy the garden throughout spring, summer and fall months that showcase distinct looks at any point during the year. The garden is open now as an exclusive space for New Balance employees.
