Strava announced on Thursday that its new race and club discovery tool will make it easier for users to find events and other local community activities.
  • Strava launches the Events tab, centralizing race discovery, club events and community organizing within the app.
  • Runna's event database is also searchable in the app, showing race listings and local events.
  • A revamped club leadership hub provides new resources to help organizers build their clubs.

Strava announced on Thursday that its new Events tap will give users a streamlined base to find races, club events and a major tilt toward community activities.

For the platform’s more than 195 million users, the move also enables them access to Runna’s races database within Strava for the first time and integrate the events with their training plans.

“The update reflects Strava’s continued investment in the community features unique to the platform – clubs, group activities, and local events – while extending to race-specific moments for its running audience with like-minded peers,” the company said in a update on its website.

For runners, cyclists and participants in other endurance activities, the new Events section means accessing group runs, rides and races easier with more options and better ways to link with others in the ecosystem.

Meanwhile, the races portal dives into Runna’s database in the first major sign that the platforms are inching toward true integration. Users can pair their existing training plans with upcoming races while tailoring the events to their run calendars.

Another major change is a refreshed club organizer feature that has been revamped to help build new groups and boost existing clubs. The groups can be filtered by date, location, format and distance which is a function that also exists in the new races database.

Strava says that more than 1 million clubs now live on its platform and run club memberships soared by more than 59 percent last year as 60 percent of monthly event attendees coming back.

The new races and club events options are available now in the Strava app and are located in the Group tab.
