Noah Lyles, Rai Benjamin, Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall were all announced on Monday as part of a growing lineup that will be in action at the USATF Outdoor & Para National Championships on July 23-26 in New York.
Lyles will double in the men’s 100m and 200m, while Benjamin switches things up and takes on the men’s flat 400, Davis-Woodhall is on a mission to leap farther in the women’s long jump while her husband Hunter will headline the men’s para 400m.
“There’s nothing like competing in New York City and having our National Championships there makes it even more exciting,” Davis-Woodhall said. “The energy of the city brings out the best in us, and I’m looking forward to competing next week and showing why track and field deserves the biggest stage.”
This year’s event pivots to Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island, taking a brief break from Hayward Field in Eugene as the biggest names in American track and field close the season in New York.
Last month, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, Cooper Lutkenhaus, Ezra Frech and Parker Valby were the first group of athletes confirmed for outdoor nationals, with more marquees names likely to be announced by the end of the week as an updated list of entries has been published by USATF.
“I am excited to be in New York at the end of July,” Jefferson-Wooden said. “Right now, my focus is simple: one day, one practice, one meet at a time. I am staying present, trusting the process and looking forward to seeing where that takes me this season.”
The full schedule of events has also been finalized and the event is being organized under partnership with Central Park Track Club, Randall’s Island Park Alliance, USATF New York, New York Road Runners and USA Track & Field.
