Gabby Thomas has tied the knot with Spencer McManes, announcing their union in a civil ceremony in Austin, Texas over the weekend in a post shared on social media on Monday.
In her post, which included several photos from outside of the Heman Marion Sweatt Travis County Court House, Thomas captioned the moment with a simple remark, “Mr. & Mrs. McManes🤍 Can’t wait to meet you at the altar.”
The couple began dating in 2022 and McManes proposed to Thomas last March in Austin.
Mutual friends suggested to Thomas that she would probably get along with McManes. Her curiosity would later turn into interest after digging up information on McManes on social media.
One of McManes’ top posts was a pizza-review video and Thomas later followed his account. When he realized the four-time Olympic champion had him on her radar, he messaged her and they remained in contact.
“I’m a huge fan of pizza myself — I was like, ‘This looks like really good quality content’,” Thomas said in an interview with Vogue last year. “Almost immediately—he DM’d me.”
McManes would be a fixture at many of Thomas’ competitions and joined her at the Paris Games in 2024 when she struck gold in the women’s 200m in 21.82, as she became the first American woman to win the event since Allyson Felix in 2012.
Before Thomas kicked off her season last year, the couple took a staycation at an Airbnb where McManes surprised her on the roof with flowers and proposed as her best friend and a photographer captured the moment.
“That’s when I realized, ‘Oh my gosh, this is happening,” Thomas said in her Vogue profile. “Normally he’s very bad with surprises — and this was the one surprise I think I’ve ever witnessed him keep.”
McManes founded Kaviva, a non-alcoholic kava seltzer brand, in 2023 as a way for those who wanted the feeling of an “elevated experience” but not deal with the negative effects of alcohol.
