Keely Hodgkinson revealed on Thursday that she has inked a deal with Coros on the eve of the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene as she continues her bid to dominate the women’s 800m this season.

“Track and field isn’t a team sport. If I have a bad day, that’s on me,” Hodgkinson said. “There is no one out there to carry it for me, and when you do earn something in the sport, you’ve completely earned it, because it is only you out there running that race.”

Hodgkinson, 24, notes that she is locked in on breaking the 43-year old world record in the distance outdoors and will lean heavily on the brand’s technology to implement performance insights and data with her existing training setup.

“I’m very proud of my past results, but I believe that I have room to improve and run faster,” Hodgkinson saud. Partnering with Coros will give me the tools I need to look back at my training history and identify opportunities to optimize my training and racing.”

This season, Hodgkinson will use the brand’s Pace 4 watch because of its simplicity, training tools and analytic tools along with the company’s heart rate monitoring device.

At Saturday’s Prefontaine Classic in at Hayward Stadium, she faces a women’s 800m field that includes Raevyn Rogers, Prudence Sekgodiso, Lilian Odira and Anaïs Bourgoin.

World women’s 800m leader Audrey Werro is notably absent from this weekend’s lineup as she continues her own bid to crack the record as she inches even closer. At last week’s Paris Diamond League, Werro bolted to a 1:53.80 world lead, topping her own mark from early June in the month in Stockholm where she edged past Hodgkinson who took second in 1:54.33.
