Whoop has named Kristen Moss as its first chief communications officer as part of the fitness tracker’s continued to plan toward sustained growth as it pivots at a rumored public offering.
Moss, who was introduced on Tuesday, recently served as the strategic communications vice president of North America at The Coca-Cola Company and has held various roles in communications and marketing at Liberty Mutual, MediaVest, Condé Nast, FTI Consulting and Polo Ralph Lauren.
And while at Reebok as the global corporate communications head, Moss led the communications effort as part of the brand’s $2.5 billion sale to Authentic Brands Group.
“The next chapter of Whoop isn’t just about growing our business but about sharing a story that inspires millions of people to take control of their health,” founder and CEO Will Ahmed said. “Kristen is an exceptional communicator and a hands-on leader, and we’re excited for her to help shape how the world understands Whoop.”
As Whoop grows internally and through its consumer-facing products, the brand knew that the expansion would need to be accompanied by a strong communications presence. The company said it now has 3 million subscribers worldwide and is pushing for even deeper inroads in health, fitness data and medical grade integrations that work seamlessly with its popular screenless trackers,
“The Whoop mission is deeply personal to me,” Moss said. “Health is the foundation for how we show up in every part of our lives, and Whoop gives people the insight to make more informed decisions about their health every day. The company has earned extraordinary trust with elite athletes, and its potential reaches far beyond sport.”
In March the company revealed that it completed its latest round of funding at $575 million on $10 billion valuation that included investment firms and athletes like Cristiano Ronaldo, Rory McIlroy and LeBron James.
The funding effort was led by New York City-based venture firm Collaborative Fund and investors included 2PointZero Group, Qatar Investment Authority, Mubadala Investment Company, Abbott, Mayo Clinic, Macquarie Capital, Glade Brook, B-Flexion, IVP, Foundry, Accomplice, Affinity Partners, Promus Ventures and Bullhound Capital.
