Brooks sees record second quarter and 14 percent growth in first half of the year
Brooks reported another record quarter on Tuesday with international markets fueling significant growth in its second quarter.
  • Brooks posted 14 percent first half for the year on the strength of its robust international expansion.
  • Stability shoes and established footwear lines continue to drove sales with Adrenaline GTS and Brooks remaining big sellers.
  • The company is still basking in the high of Josh Kerr's world record in the mile at last month's London Diamond League.

Brooks surged to another record quarter as it rode a strong first half of growth with its international expansion leading the way to another period of robust sales.

The sportswear maker said on Tuesday that a 14 percent boost during the first six months of the year was fueled by a 39 percent sales jump in Europe, the Middle East and Africa regions. Meanwhile, North American sales were up nine percent and Asia-Pacific rose 10 percent.

“Around the globe, running continues to play an increasingly important role for people prioritizing health and wellness in their lives,” Dan Sheridan, Brooks CEO said. “At Brooks, we aim to give runners the very best product and experiences to pursue that. Our first-half results reflect that focus and the incredible work of our teams globally.”

The Berkshire Hathaway-owned company again credited its “iconic” stability performance shoes with pushing revenue with the Ghost 18 arriving in May as the Adrenaline GTS grew 19 percent over last year. Trail products exploded to a staggering 71 percent in the quarter over the same period last year with the Ghost Trail and the Cascadia lineups growing 58 percent.

Brooks also noted that its emerging apparel offerings have gained traction with consumers as the Movement and PR Elite collections now support the established Luxe and Chaser lines. Accessories sales soared by 29 percent in the second quarter and the companies has maintained is dominance as a leading sports bra supplier, holding five of the top ten bra styles at Fleet Feet in the period.

In May, the company announced a record first quarter where it saw a huge 136 percent year-over-year jump in China as part of its “runner-first focus power” that contributed to an overall 23 percent sales increase as North America rose 20 percent along with a 30 percent uptick in the EMEA market.

The company is still riding the momentum of Josh Kerr’s 3:42.66 world record in the mile at last month’s London Diamond League with Brooks taking a bespoke approach to ensuring the attempt at the 27-year-old mark was adequately supported.
