The next iteration of the mega-popular Asics Gel-1130 silhouette comes as a mule as the retro running shoe is transformed as an extension of the brand’s Sportstyle sales leader. The mule version of the Gel-1130 arrives with far less heel, with three colorways and retains all of flavor of its original namesake.
The original Gel-1130 arrived in 2008 as an entry-level detour from the Gel-Kayano 14 and only stuck around for three years and disappeared from the sportswear maker’s lineup. But in 2021, the Gel-1130 return and exploded into a windfall for Asics and represents near 60 percent of the company’s lifestyle footwear offerings.
With the mule, the modified Gel-1130 stays close to its famous sibling and is built with comfort plus ease of being slipped on and off of the foot. Meanwhile, the trendy black and silver variant leads the way, as a bronze and gray version joins the lineup along with a silver and gray option.
The mule is equipped with the same breathable open-celled mesh on the upper with synthetic leather overlays. An EVA foam midsole infused with GEL technology keeps the ride predictable, lightweight and a comfy choice for all day duty.
No release date for the Gel-1130 mule has been announced by Asics but the model is expected to arrive by the summer.
