The fifth and last day of the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships on Sunday in Eugene saw the crowning of the final 15 event winners with an exciting slate of relays closing out a glimpse of the next stars on the world stage.
Team USA would ultimately leave Hayward Field with the biggest medal haul of all nations with 24 total medals (12 gold, seven silver and five bronze) and threw down a world U20 record in the men’s 4x100m relay to take gold with a 38.16 by Blake Hamilton, Dillon Mitchell, Kyler Brown and Tate Taylor that took down South Africa’s 38.51 from 2021.
Great Britain took silver in 38.90 while Jamaica finished third with a 39.01.
“This is a fast team,” Brown said. “We never had a team like this before, we were very excited here yesterday and now we have the gold.”
In the women’s 4x100m relay, Jamaica bolted straight to gold in a world U20 lead of 42.89 under the guidance of Sashana Johnson, Theianna-Lee Terrelonge, Natrece East and Shanoya Douglas over Switzerland (43.36) and Belgium (43.91).
“It has been a long year for all of the Jamaican team so to win this medal is a great honor,” Douglas said. “It’s our fourth one in a row.”
A powerhouse squad featuring Quincy Wilson, Cameron Tucker, Alexander Osayemi Jayden DeLeon delivered in the men’s 4×400 with a world U20 leading 3:01.39 as they surged past South Africa (3:02.76) and France (3:04.80), while their teammates struck gold in the women’s 4x400m in a world U20 leading 3:29.15 as Ashtyn Lewis, Olivia Harris, Clara Adama and Taylor-Nicole Overton topped Australia (3:31.39) and Great Britain (3:32.08).
Meanwile, Kenya’s Wilson Chepkwech took the men’s 1,500m title in 3:37.46 over teammate David Kapaiko Sekento (3:38.32) and Morocco’s Osama Er Redouani (3:39.68), as Spain’s Bakr El Asri won the men’s 3,000m steeplechase in 8:28.35 ahead of Kenyan duo Emmanuel Lemiso Someki (8:32.81) and Nicholas Kitum Losiwareng (8:38.05) while Egypt’s Aseel Osama Abdel Hamid got the women’s javelin title on a 59.82 throw as Croatia’s Vita Barbic took silver (56.60m) and Taipei’s Yu-Chin Tai got bronze (54.34).
Michal Rada was victorious in the men’s 400m hurdles in 48.59 for the Czech Republic over Japan’s Taiju Goto (49.23) and South Africa’s Matodzi Ndo (49.90) while the women’s 400m hurdles saw Alexandra Stefania Uta take gold in 55.33 while South Africa’s Tumi Ramokgopa got silver in 55.88 and Greece’s Eleni Iakovaki got bronze in (55.99).
Bulgaria’s Viktoria Angelova was victorious in the women’s triple jump in 13.91m as she got past Romania’s Daria Vrinceanu (13.70m) and Spain’s Ana Estrella de Leon (13.58m) as Australia’s Izobelle Louison-Roe won the women’s high jump in 1.92m over Hugary’s Lilianna Bátori (1.90m) and Spain’s Aitana Alonso (1.90m).
