USA Track and Field announced plans to launch an indoor tour of events in 2027 following the path of its domestic series of outdoor meets this past summer.
The six-meet tour was announced Wednesday, with the first competition in January in New York with the NYC Indoor Grand Prix on Staten Island and concluding in February at The Armory with the Millrose Games. The USA Track & Field Indoor Tour will build up to USATF’s indoor championships, which will be held in late February in Indianapolis.
“The USA Track & Field Tour is an example of what we can do when we all work together to put our athletes first,” USATF CEO Max Siegel said. “We are grateful for the meet organizers who work tirelessly to put world class events and we are honored to support and celebrate their efforts.”
Meanwhile, the move comes months after USATF worked to remedy the fragmented scheduling and somewhat disorganized nature of meets in the United States by forming its own 17-event outdoor tour that began in March with The TEN in San Juan Capistrano, California.
A major goal was to also standardize an event schedule of independent meets that provide athletes more opportunities to compete and establish a set of best practices throughout the season.
Jamal Britt and Valarie Sion were named inaugural USATF Tour champions in July, received $50,000 bonuses as part of their tour championships and the format was largely welcomed as a step toward giving athletes and fans premium events that abide by similar guidelines.
