Spotify has unveiled a new feature aimed directly at runners who are locked in on cranking up the milage with the introduction of “Running Mode” while brings a layer of customization into each workout — or race.
The music streaming company believes that one of the key difference in the quality of runs is the right playlist and revealed the new features on Friday to fine tune what gets pumped into the ears of each user.
Inside of the running section of the platform, a user can choose their workout type (like interval, easy run, pyramid or long run) and then select a playlist that corresponds to a the recommended beats per minute and kind of music that fits the mood of the person. A voiceover at the beginning of the playlist explains how the workout should flow and the guide continues through the songs, which blend into each other with smooth transitions.
Running Mode launched with 25 playlists across several genres like Hip Hop, rock, pop, EDM and R&B with the amount of songs filling 20 to 45 minute workouts and each is infused with coaching to inject a bit of motivation into the run.
Meanwhile, the addition of the running-focused features are the latest addition to the growing Fitness Hub after announcing in April that more than 1,400 Peloton classes would also join its ecosystem in a partnership between both brands.
Spotify says that Running Mode will be a compliment to its existing fitness content with runners likely to sample some of the available classes as they get more familiar with the tailored music playlists.
The new running feature is available in the Fitness Hub for iOS users in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden, with no word on whether it will expand to other platforms or markets.
