The stars of the sport will shine bright at the fourth Diamond League meeting of the season on Thursday as Noah Lyles, Julien Alfred, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, Keely Hodgkinson and Ryan Crouser take center stage at the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea.
It will be the first meeting of the season in Europe this year as the circuit continues to take shape and there will be several matchups worth keeping an eye on at Stadio Olimpico.
Lyles will face Jordan Anthony, Ackeem Blake, Marcell Jacobs and Ferdinand Omanyala in a stacked men’s 100m to close the showcase, while Alfred battles Jefferson-Wooden and Dina Asher-Smith for the women’s 200m crown.
Crouser will take on familiar competition in the men’s shot put against Leonardo Fabbri, Joe Kovacs, Jordan Geist and Tom Walsh as Hodgkinson finds her way into the women’s 400m where she faces Amber Anning, Nickisha Pryce, Lieke Klaver and Aaliyah Butler.
In the the women’s pole vault, which will be one of the first events to kick off the schedule, Sandi Morris gets the task of taking on Molly Caudery, Nina Kennedy, Eliza McCartney, Olivia McTaggart and Elisa Molinarolo.
Anna Cockrell leads the way in the women’s 400m hurdles against Jasmine Jones, Ayomide Folorunso, Amalie Iuel, Andrenette Knight, Dalilah Muhammad and Naomi Van Den Broeck while Jamal Britt continues to build on the two Diamond League wins he racked up already this season when he heads into the men’s 100m hurdles to face a field that features Orlando Bennett, Trey Cunningham, Jason Joseph and Just Kwaou-Mathey.
The women’s 1,500m will see Nadia Battocletti among a group that has Margaret Akidor, Marta Alemayo, Likina Amebaw, Medina Eisa and Freweyni Hailu all in the mix as Tonea Marshall dives into the women’s 100m hurdles on a collision course with Giada Carmassi, Marione Fourie, Kendra Harrison, Cyréna Samba-Mayela and Megan Simmonds.
