A coroner in Indianapolis has identified the two men who died during the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon on Saturday after suffering separate medical emergencies.

Kyle Fisher, 40 and John Clifford Mace, 71 were near the race finish line at West Washington Street when they they had medical emergencies, according to the Marion County Coroner’s Office.

Fisher was taken to Methodist Hospital where he was pronounced dead and Mace was transported to Eskenazi Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

It is still not clear what caused either emergency and autopsies were expected to be performed on Monday.

Race organizers released a statement on Sunday and said they were cooperating with authorities.

“Beyond Monumental and our partners extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the two participants who passed away today following separate, unrelated medical emergencies and after being transported to local hospitals.”
