Emotion of a Comeback

Donavan Brazier stormed to the finish line in the men’s 800m final in 1:42.16 — a personal best — at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships last Sunday in Eugene, putting punctuation on a comeback that saw him battle from injuries and three years of surgeries.

After capturing the national title in the 800m, Brazier bolted to his support section in the stands, into the arms of girlfriend Ally Watt, as a return to top form became a reality.

Photographer Adrian Umpierrez describes the moment Brazier took victory into raw emotions that were then captured through the lens.
