Records are a guarantee to fall at the Millrose Games, but first time winners found their way to the roar of The Armory in New York last Sunday.
Cam Myers denied Yared Nuguse a fourth straight title in the men’s Wanamaker Mile in a stunning 3:47.57 as a Nikki Hiltz took the women’s race in a 4:19.64 world lead that also served as a personal best.
Awaiting both after the post race broadcast television interviews and celebratory victory laps to greet the crowd were a preview of the Wanamaker trophy. The shining silver piece of hardware will eventually be carved and bear their names in perhaps what is the ushering of a new era of Wanamaker winners.
