TCS revealed on Monday that it will extend its title partnership as the London Marathon lead sponsor through 2029.
The deal was announced just days before Sunday’s race and continues a relationship with the event that dates back to 2016 when Tata Consultancy Services served as a technology partner for the race in 2016.
“The London Marathon is one of the world’s greatest sporting events, and our partnership with London Marathon Events is built on a decade of shared purpose, trust and innovation,” Vinay Singhvi, head of UK & Ireland for TCS said in a statement. “Much like a marathon, this partnership reflects TCS’ own philosophy of long‑term commitment, perseverance, and going the distance together. Extending this partnership reflects our long‑term commitment to London, to the UK” and to the communities in which we live and work.”
TCS took over as title sponsor from Virgin Money in 2022 and has managed the event’s digital infrastructure. The deal covers the 2028 and 2029 editions of the London Marathon, Mini London Marathon and Mini London Marathon in schools.
“Together, we have delivered a record-breaking era in the history of the London Marathon – combining TCS’s cutting-edge technology with London Marathon Events’ expertise in mass participation to deliver an exceptional experience,” Hugh Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events said. “We look forward to building on this success and continuing to innovate in the years ahead.”
Through the partnership, the stand-alone TCS Mini London Marathon was created and is a one-mile event for children typically held the day before the general race. And accompanying initiative for youth has been implemented in schools to promote regular activity and fitness.
Meanwhile, Sunday’s race is expected to draw nearly 60,000 runners to the start line as Tigst Assefa looks to defend her title in the women’s race in a field that includes Joyciline Jepkosgei, Hellen Obiri and Degitu Azimeraw. In the men’s field Sabastian Sawe will also look for back to back wins in London as he faces a stacked group that features Jacob Kiplimo, Deresa Geleta, Amos Kipruto, Tamirat Tola, Amanal Petros, Geoffrey Kamworor, Joshua Cheptegei and Yomif Kejelcha.
Race organizers also confirmed reports that they are exploring plans to stage a two-day version of the marathon in 2027 that could draw around 100,000 participants. Last month, The Guardian revealed that the expanded event would be a one-time move to raise millions for charity with the men’s and women’s elite races held on separate days.
