Just days from the Boston Marathon, On has opened its newest retail location within striking distance of the race’s finish line.

The sportswear maker announced on Wednesday that its first store in Boston will be ready for foot traffic this week in the Back Bay neighborhood on Newbury Street.

“Boston has a deep-rooted passion for running and dedication to performance – traits that are central to our brand ethos,” Dan Schade, general manager of the Americas at On said. “Opening on Newbury Street during this iconic week is an incredibly meaningful milestone for us. From Hellen Obiri’s recent back-to-back wins to talent like Joe Klecker and Ryan Ford competing at the highest level this year, we’re proud to be part of the energy that defines this city.”

The location is On’s 15th retail store and pushes the brand’s brick-and-mortar footprint to 70 worldwide. Customers can expect to shop in a 2,800-square-foot space that will stock a wide range of the company’s footwear, apparel and accessories for running, tennis, training, outdoor and lifestyle along with some products from recent collaborations.

On says the two level store is a mix of the brand’s “contemporary design aesthetic” with a clear hint of Boston’s historic architecture. A carefully throughout format of rooms is designed to move customers through the store, feature integrated seating and ample space to try out products. The main feature of the location is a hidden shelf system that contains footwear in every size so customers can easily grab and test out shoes.

The company also notes that the Boston store will staff more than 20 full and part time employees.

As part of its opening, the store will be the site of a number of promotional activations for the large crowds expected in Boston for a packed race week schedule.
