The 2025 London Marathon set a new world record for the largest annual one-day fundraiser, pulling in $117 million and beating its own previous record from last year’s race.

London Marathon Events, the organizer of the race that was held on April 27, announced on Tuesday that the new record easily topped 2024’s total by $18.5 million, with the proceeds slated for various charities.

The race also had 56,640 people cross the finish line, and set a Guinness World Record for the largest number of finishers in any marathon.

“We are extremely proud that the TCS London Marathon continues to set new records,” Hugh Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events, said in a statement. “While it takes place on one day every year, its impact goes far beyond that. Thousands of charities directly benefit from the money raised by the incredible efforts of those who ran 26.2 miles on Sunday 27 April, helping these organizations make a difference all year round.”

Since 1981, when the marathon was established nearly $1.9 billion has been raised with charities that benefit cancer research and other causes among the dozens of organizers that are beneficiaries of the funds.

The fundraising mark could be challenged once again next year as the 2026 race received a record 1.1 million participant applications, far more than 840,318 from last year’s ballot for 2025, race organizers announced in May.
