Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and husband Andre announced on Sunday that they welcomed the birth of their first child, months after announcing the pregnancy in January.
The Olympic and world champion said in a post on social media that their “blessing and our joy is finally here! So grateful for everyone who supported us through the pregnancy journey. Looking forward to seeing what God has in store for our little girl!!,” who they named Savannah Michelle.
In January they made a similar announcement, revealing the image of a sonogram scan as they posed on a beach with McLaughlin-Levrone showing signs of early pregnancy.
“Made a human with my favorite human. Oh, how we have prayed for you… and the Lord has answered!! You are our greatest blessing and are already so loved,” the caption on the post said. “We are eagerly waiting to meet you! Cool parents loading.”
In an article with Footwear News last month, McLaughlin-Levrone acknowledged how her excitement for the upcoming birth started to match the reality of becoming a parent for the first time.
“It’s becoming more real,” she said. “Every day that passes by I’m like, ‘This is really happening.’ We got the nursery done, put together the stroller, the car seat. It’s going to be a new adventure.”
Last year was a particularly busy year on the track for McLaughlin-Levrone, 26, after she won a pair of gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics in the women’s 400m hurdles and the women’s 4x400m relay. Her win in the 400m hurdles came in world record fashion as she broke her own mark in 50.37.
She was the headliner of Grand Slam Track’s inaugural season and capped her 2026 season in Tokyo at world championships where she broke the U.S. record in the women’s 400m in 48.29 on her way to the gold. Later she would also strike gold as part of Team USA’s 4x400m relay squad. McLaughlin-Levrone also named to the Forbes list of the top earning female athletes of 2025 in December.
The birth comes during a year in the sport where there will be no Olympics or world championships despite a surge in world leads and several world records this season. But McLaughlin-Levrone is expected to be a major factor in competition in 2027 to defend her 400m world title and eventually builds for a spot on Team USA for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
