The debut of 16-year-old phenom Quincy Wilson at the Paris Olympics will have to wait — for now.
Wilson is a Maryland-area high school student from the Bullis School and was not named to the U.S. team’s mixed 4x400m relay team, according to his mother, Monique Wilson.
“Although it says differently on the Official Olympic site, the Coach notified Quincy that he will not be running in the Mixed 4x400m relay… thanks for ALL the support!!,” she announced on social media.
The online roster still shows Wilson as part of the on the 4×400 team pool and the mixed 4x400m team is permitted one substitution after the preliminaries, which begin on Friday, Aug. 2. There’s a chance that he could be included in the mixed 4x400m final or any of the men’s 4x400m rounds.
Wilson has had a stellar year on the track and boosted his profile by breaking the sophomore class record with an impressive 1:17.36 in the boys 600m at the Millrose Games in February.
He is currently the eighth-fastest athlete at 400m in the world and finished sixth in the men’s 400m final at U.S. Olympic Trials in Oregon in July. Wilson ran to 44.20 at the Holloway Pro Classic in Gainsville, Fl. later in the month. The time lowered his world U18 record and high school national mark.
