Several NCAA Division I sports, including men’s and women’s track and field will have their transfer windows altered after the collegiate governing body announced changes on Wednesday that impact how — and when — students can transfer schools.

Under the new guidelines, Division I track and field athletes will no longer have a transfer window that existed between indoor and outdoor seasons. However, the 30-day window that opens the day after selections for the Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships will also be in place along with the existing window that opens at the end of the fall.

In a notice detailing the new transfer guidelines, the NCAA said that all of the notification-of-transfer windows were based on recommendation from the oversight committees of each sport.

Among the other changes to other sports revealed on Wednesday:

Basketball
• Based on recommendations from the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Oversight Committees, the transfer windows in both sports will open for a 15-day period the day after the championship game of their respective NCAA tournaments and are effective immediately. If a head coaching change occurs, a 15-day period will open five days after a new head coach is hired or publicly announced.

Men’s wrestling
• The transfer window is now 30 days, beginning April 1 each year, which is down from 45 days.

Men’s ice hockey
• The transfer window is now 15 days, starting the Monday after the final of the men’s ice hockey championship. If a coaching change occurs there will be an additional 15-day period five days after the coach is announced. But if a new coach is not announced within 30 days of the previous head coach’s departure, a 15-day window will open.

The Cabinet has also asked the women’s ice hockey if it would consider similar changes to its transfer process.
