Miami has been announced as the next host city for Grand Slam Track, the league revealed on Tuesday.
The announcement comes just a day after Kingston, Jamaica would be the site of the first “Slam” when the league officially kicks off in early. The Miami event will take place at Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar on May 2, 3 and 4, serving as the second meet.
“South Florida knows how to host big events and that’s exactly what we’re bringing with Grand Slam Track,” Michael Johnson, the league’s founder said in a statement. “This region has a real passion for sports, and I’m confident the energy here will make it a memorable experience for both the racers and the fans. We’re building something special, and Miami is going to be a huge part of that.”
Los Angeles was initially confirmed as a host city when the Johnson introduced the league last June, which now fuels speculation that New York will be the final meet location.
Meanwhile, the Miami event will take place during the second Diamond League meet in Shanghai, China on May 3. But notables like Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Fred Kerley, Cole Hocker, Yared Nuguse and Josh Kerr will be in action at the second “Slam” in South Florida.
“We are thrilled to have been selected as one of the host cities for the inaugural season of the Grand Slam Track,” Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam said in a statement. “This event will not only showcase our city’s state-of-the-art facilities but also provide an opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship.”
Johnson’s upstart league has taken shape since he announced that Grand Slam Track is positioned to boost prize payouts and create interesting matchups on the track. There will be four meets in 2025, with 48 “Racers” and 48 “Challengers” competing for $100,000 prizes for winners of each events.
