Garmin readies major release at launch event tomorrow, with Fenix 9 expected
Garmin is set unveil new products on Tuesday, with the Fenix 9 smartwatch expected at a “groundbreaking launch event.”
  • The Fenix 9 is expected to debuts tomorrow during a livestream on YouTube at 7am Eastern on Tuesday.
  • Leaks show carbon and titanium options across 43mm, 47mm and 51mm case sizes.
  • Garmin launched $200 Cirqa tracker in July, a screenless and subscription free band that directly competes with Whoop and the Fitbit Air.

Garmin is preparing a new product announcement on Tuesday with the rumored Fenix 9 expected to the focus of a live presentation that the brand typically reserves for major rollouts

A placeholder on the company’s website directs to a reminder and says “Get Ready To Play Harder” in reference to the event while the brand’s YouTube page for the announcement has been up for days with image of a surfer riding a wave.

In recent weeks, several leaks from its websites in European territories suggests the new Fenix 9 will also be joined by the, Fenix 9 Pro and Enduro 4 in a range of colors and case 43mm, 47mm and 51mm sizes. And while those leaks have since disappeared from the company’s Czech site, it’s apparent that six variants of the Fenix 9 are on the way.

It’s unclear if any of the Forerunner wearables will be in on the action since Garmin released the 570 and 970 variants last May and the entry-level Forerunner 170 and 70 were introduced just three months ago on May 12 and it’s unlikely that the lineup gets another member to its already crowded roster.

But Garmin’s fitness products, and wearables in particular, have led the charge on wrists of consumers and in the company’s revenues especially after a solid $2.02 billion second quarter. On July 31 the brand said in its earnings report that it saw and 11 percent jump over the same point last year and fitness surged 25 percent to $757 million.

That came just a week after Garmin unveiled its Cirqa fitness band-style tracker that joins a busy segment and will taken on established products from Whoop along with Google’s new Fitbit Air — and their clones.

It’s a sign that Garmin is keeping its fitness lineup current even if Cirqa, despite the company’s vast resources, arrived to the screenless wearable part significantly later than it should have. At $200, it’s priced competitively with no subscription and easily integrates inside of the Garmin Connect ecosystem but will take time to see if it can compete for wrist space of consumers like the company’s other wearables.

But with what appears to be the a new Fenix 9 ready to step into the spotlight on Tuesday, Garmin’s flagship watch may appear decked out in several material options like carbon and titanium and based on the leaks (if accurate) at least 18 variants are on the way.
