Gabby Thomas signs with Grand Slam Track, aims to keep competing at the ‘highest level’

Gabby Thomas is the latest addition to Grand Slam Track, boosting the league’s roster as she plans to race in all four meets in 2025.

The league announced on Tuesday that Thomas will join as a “Racer,” and her signing comes on the heels of a strong year on the track as she won gold for Team USA at the Paris Olympics in the 200m, along with the 4x400m and 4x100m relays.

“I am so excited to be joining Grand Slam Track, and partnering with Michael Johnson to give our sport the platform it deserves,” Thomas said in a statement. “Coming off of the Olympics, I want to continue testing myself and competing at the highest level against the fastest women in the world. Grand Slam Track allows us that chance in 2025. Michael’s vision is incredibly exciting, and I can’t wait to give the millions of track fans around the world even more chances to watch us compete. I look forward to seeing all of our fans at the four Slams next year.”

Meanwhile, the league’s now has 10 slots left for “Racers,” who are guaranteed to appear in all four meets when competition kicks off in April in Kingston, Jamaica. Last week Elise Cranny, Mary Moraa, Nozomi Tanaka, Daryll Neita and Salwa Eid Naser were announced as part of the group of 48 “Racers.”

“This is an incredibly exciting day for all of us at Grand Slam Track,” Michael Johnson, the league’s founder said in a statement. “Gabby was unquestionably one of the biggest superstars to come out of Paris, and for us to bring her excellence, exceptional speed, and tenacious competitive spirit to our league is a huge moment for us. What’s even more important is that this ensures fans around the world will get to see Gabby compete against the fastest women in the world four times a year at our Slams. We’ve been saying it and we mean it; we’re calling all rivals, and we want only the fastest. Gabby is a true American hero, and one of the most impactful athletes of 2024; we couldn’t be happier to be adding her as a signed Racer for Grand Slam Track.”

Johnson announced the details of the league before the Paris Olympics and immediately drew attention when Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone was revealed as the first athlete named to the roster. He has pledged to boost prize payouts and create engaging matchups on the track.

The first meet will be at National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica on April 4, 5 and 6.
