Athlos will make its return to New York on October 2 for a third season of action to close a busy year on the track and in the field.
Organizers of the all-women meet announced on Tuesday that the showcase will be back at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island and fans can expect another high energy event mixed with the intensity of a concert. But this year’s format will get an adjustment, with New York being one of two cities that will host seven track and field events as athletes will accumulate points to determine an overall winner per discipline.
The second city has not been announced but the new format has been billed by organizers as “Two Cities, One Crown” with the unnamed event likely taking place before October’s competition.
Payouts have also been adjusted with points corresponding to prize money. First place winners scoring ten points receive $65,000 while second place is eight points ($35,000), third place is six points ($20,000), fourth receives four points ($15,000), with fifth getting two points ($10,000) and sixth will earn a point and $6,000.
In an appearance on the CBS Mornings on Tuesday, founder Alexis Ohanian also revealed that event winners will also earn equity in the league.
“One things startups get right is aligning incentives across the board,” Ohanian said. “And so we think why not the same for our athletes? We’re building this league with them — no one is showing up to watch me. They’re showing up to watch these amazing athletes compete.”
Athlos launched in 2024 and featured Faith Kipyegon, Gabby Thomas and Brittany Brown as part of a packed lineup while Megan Thee Stallion closed the event with a performance. Last year kept the same momentum and Brown won the 100m and 200m titles as the big winner of the evening while Ciara treated the crowd to a medley of her hits.
The 2025 even also included its first field event, the long jump, with Tara Davis-Woodhall taking the win after a preliminary round in Times Square the day before that drew a huge crowd around the lane and jumping pit built for the competition.
