Agnes Ngetich and Tsigie Gebreselama are the newest additions to the expanding Grand Slam Track roster, the league announced on Friday.
Ngetich and Gebreselama will be added to the existing group of “Racers” that are guaranteed to compete in all four of the league’s meets in 2025.
“Agnes and Tsigie embody the spirit of Grand Slam Track,” Michael Johnson, the league’s founder, said in a statement. “Their dedication, talent, and competitive drive make them ideal additions to our roster of Racers. We are confident they will inspire fans and help to elevate our sport to the levels it deserves. Their addition solidifies our position as the new global home of track racing, and we can’t wait to see them entertain millions of fans around the world in 2025.”
Ngetich, 23, competes for Kenya and grabbed headlines last Sunday when she posted the second fastest time ever in the women’s division of the Valencia Half Marathon in 1:03:04. In January she broke the 10k road record at the Valencia Ibercaja in 28:46.
“Joining Grand Slam Track has ignited even more fire within me,” Ngetich said in a statememt. “The competition is fierce, the atmosphere will be electric, and the possibilities are endless. I always dreamed of competing at the highest level, and joining Grand Slam Track is the next step in that dream. Especially as I can do this on track now and in a way that I can plan my season properly. I’m excited to race against the fastest women in the world and inspire the next generation to dream big.”
Gebreselama, 24, represented Ethiopia at the Paris Olympics in August and finished tenth in the women’s 10,000m final. She won the 5000m at the 2024 Prefontaine Classic in 14:18.76, a personal best.
“I thrive on competition and Grand Slam Track is a series of races for athletes to push their limits,” Gebreselama said in a statement. “It’s an incredible opportunity to challenge myself against the best in the world and perform in front of passionate fans. I can’t wait to feel the energy of the crowd and be part of a show they’ll never forget.”
Grand Slam Track has now boosted its roster to 32 “Racers” with just 14 slots to be announced. An additional 48 “Challengers” will make up the remaining participants for the league.
Johnson had pledged to boost prize payouts for Grand Slam Track, with event winners taking home $100,000 and eighth place finishers guaranteed $10,000.
