The ticket draw lottery for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will close on Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time with more than 5 million people who already registered hoping they will get a shot to attend the Games.
The ballot opened in January with 197 countries and territories represented in the pool of hopefuls as winners will be notified in early April to purchase up to 12 tickets for Olympic events, including the opening and closing ceremonies.
In the first day of registration on January, more than 1.5 million people from 150 countries signed up through the ticketing portal, causing long wait times and some website errors that prevented information from being processed.
But organizers said that there would be no priority placed on when a person completed their submission and a entry from January would have the same probability of being chosen as someone who registered in February or March.
Once ticket sales begin in April, the question of event pricing will finally be revealed after LA28 officials promised that “at least a million” tickets would be $28 and around one third would be about $100.
What was unclear was if high demand events like basketball, track and field, gymnastics and swimming would be included in that pricing tier or would the events fetch premium prices, which seems likely.
Those chosen will be notified via email between March 31 and April 7 and also include a designated time slot time to select an event. Tickets must be bought during the time slot and even if an individual is selected in the ballot, no tickets are guaranteed. If all 12 of a ticket allocation is not used during the first session of the purchase period, the remaining allotment can be rounded up for a future release.
A ticket pre-sale for Los Angeles residents in certain areas will be held on April 2-6, while the general window for purchases is from April 9-19.
