Tag Heuer has teamed up with New Balance for a special edition of the company’s Connected Calibre wearable E5 model that pulls the watchmaker into the realm of endurance sports with a dose of luxury.
The new flavor of the Connected Calibre E5 is a 40mm Grade 2 titanium case paired with a violet and green band that is a nod to the FuelCell SuperComp Elite v5 shoe that wears the same color scheme, with Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone making an appearance in a promo for this special edition.
The watch is powered by Tag Heuer’s own operating system, TAG Heuer OS, which is a noticeable departure from what previously underpinned prior iterations of the Connected Calibre series. The company has been producing luxury smartwatches since 2015, with all models using Google’s Wear OS operating system until now. Tag Heuer’s new software is based on the Android Open Source Project and has been updated to include more touchscreen gestures, dial in inputs seamlessly and an AMOLED screen that meets the edge of the bezel, which is relegated to the sides of the case.
The watch is data rich but boasts premium materials that put up a united front of technology and traditional craftsmanship. But the specs will ultimately prove to be the deciding factor especially for a model that commands a significantly higher price tag than workhorse wearables from Garmin or Coros.
The Connected Calibre E5 is water resistant up to 165 feet (50 meters), is topped with a sapphire crystal face and is controlled with a Snapdragon 5100+ chipset that Tag Heuer says will keep the battery power at two days before a charge is needed.
Looking deeper inside of the features of the Connected Calibre E5, users can expect plenty with heart rate monitoring, steps counter, accerleromter, compass, barometer, blood oxygen sensor, breathing rate detection and sleep tracking all being among a stacked lineup available right out of the box.
The Connected Calibre E5 New Balance edition is available now for $2,050, alongside four other material and color options by Tag Heuer. The TAG Heuer x New Balance SC Elite v5 is available at New Balance for $279.99.
