Garmin announced on Wednesday that it has acquired the TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic platforms that both operated under Louisville, Colorado-based Peaksware Holdings.
The move pulls in the two longtime Garmin collaborators even closer as both dominate their respective sides as trusted endurance and strength programs that offer deep coach-to-athlete collaboration tools.
“TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic share Garmin’s passion for empowering athletes and coaches around the world with world-class training tools, performance metrics and actionable insights, Garmin co-chief operating officer Brad Trenkle said. “The addition of these highly successful platforms to the Garmin ecosystem will expand access to more authentic coaching experiences—connecting athletes with professional coaches who guide, motivate and inspire them to reach their goals.”
No financial terms of the deal were disclosed but 120 total employees will join Garmin as part of the acquisition.
Garmin said that the purchase of both brands means that dedicated athletic coaching for endurance, strength and performance training will make it way to the company’s existing offerings, like Garmin Connect and many of its sports focused smartwatches.

TrainingPeaks was founded in 1999 by Gear Fisher and Dirk Friel and primarily focused on cycling, triathlon and running workout plans and a deep analyzation of user-derived metrics that gave athletes and coaches a data-first insight into training.
TrainHeroic was introduced 2012 as dedicated strength, conditioning and fitness-tracking platform for both coaches and athletes with customizable plans and logs alongside workout insight tools. The platform stands out with its command center style approach to help build online coaching businesses.
