Athlos is back this week to close out the track and field season with an all-women event that will be equal parts competition, music, high energy and culture with New York City as the ultimate backdrop.
The lineup is loaded with world championship-caliber names taking on the city as Faith Kipyegon, Tara Davis-Woodhall, Brittany Brown, Marileidy Paulino, Keely Hodgkinson, Masai Russell and Jessica Hull are among the stars leading the way. The custom Tiffany & Co. crowns will be back as well for each competitor who emerges with a victory. And after the action, Ciara takes the stage for an electric concert performance.
As an added incentive, a $250,000 bonus for a world record in on the line for any competitor who sets a new mark.
Last year’s inaugural event crafted a template that organizers have carried over into an event that now includes the long jump.
On Thursday, the long jump kicks things off under the lights and billboard in Times Square as Davis-Woodhall will leap before huge crowds in the event qualifier in a field that also includes a group with Jasmine Moore, Quanesha Burks and Jazmin Sawyers.
Meanwhile, Athlos shifts to Icahn Stadium on Friday as last year’s big winner Brittany Brown is back and ready to lead the way in the 200m alongside Anavia Battle, McKenzie Long, Amy Hunt and Jessika Gbai. The 100m features Kayla White, Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith, Zoe Hobbs, Jonielle Smith and Jacious Sears.
Masai Russell heads a 100m hurdles field with Devynne Charlton, Grace Stark, Alaysha Johnson, Tonea Marshall and Megan Tapper while Marileidy Paulino looks to repeat as Athlos 400m champion as she faces off against Alexis Holmes, Amber Anning, Salwa Eid Naser, Henriette Jaeger and Lynna Irby Jackson.
A loaded 800m will see Keely Hodgkinson and Georgia Hunter Bell push the pace against Natoya Goule-Toppin, Mary Moraa and Halimah Nakaayi.
Faith Kipyegon could be in line for a world record effort in the mile but will be joined on the track with Nikki Hiltz, Jessica Hull, Gudaf Tsegay, Susan Ejore-Sanders and Freweyni Hailu rounding out the field.
